Delivering transport infrastructure
A project of this scale can generate funding to help put in
place the infrastructure that is needed to support housing development,
in a way that smaller schemes are unable to do.
As part of the proposals, we have set aside land for a new
road to run to the east of the development, the Kettering eastern
Avenue, which will help reduce rat-running through Weekley and
Warkton and provide relief for eastern parts of the town. The
development will also make a financial contribution to this
road. We are also in discussions with the Highways Agency about
improvements to the A14.
The internal street pattern has been designed to make it safe
and accessible for all road users, including cyclists and pedestrians,
to whom priority will be given. The new streets will be accessed
from a new Central Avenue that will act as a spine running through
the site.
To ensure the development is seamlessly integrated into the
town, a series of road connections are proposed into Kettering
and the surrounding area.
The development has been specifically designed to encourage
walking and cycling. All homes will be within walking distance
of the new local centres. High quality pedestrian footways and
cycle facilities will be provided throughout the development,
while the bridleways crossing the site will be retained.
The development will be served by excellent public transport
with frequent bus services and bus stops located close to homes.
A park and ride is also proposed as a way of encouraging the
new residents of East Kettering, and others, into Kettering
town centre by public transport.
